Alexandru Bar is a PhD Candidate in the School of Languages, Cultures and Societies, University of Leeds, (AHRC) Doctoral studentship with the Performing the Jewish Archives project under the supervision of Dr. Helen Finch. His research interests include Romanian-Jews in avant-garde movements, Romanian-Jewish history and culture in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, and Jewish identity in the context of the politics of national unification in Greater Romania. He presented his research work at international conferences in Italy (University of Trieste), Belgium (University of Antwerp) and Australia (UNSW), also chairing the panel titled “Neighbours in Literature: Jews and their neighbours in Shtetl fiction, art and history” at the AAJS Conference. Originally from Romania, Alexandru graduated from Tel Aviv University, Gershon H. Grodon Faculty of Social Sciences (MASA Scholarship 2012-2013), with a Master’s of Arts in Political Science and Political Communication. During his Master’s studies he engaged in a variety of projects powered by the Tel Aviv University Senate such as the Legacy Mission and worked as a researcher on Dr. Yael Shomer’s research on cameral procedures change.
